19th C. Tibetan Thadobati Singing Bowl – Lovely D4 & Inscription
SOLD
Antique Tibetan Thadobati Singing Bowl. D4 Note (Sacral Chakra)
Weight 2 lb 2 ½ oz (981g). 19 x 8.5 cm (approx. 7 ½ x 3 ¼ inches)
This is a large fine quality antique Thadobati Singing Bowl with a lovely voice…a mid octave D fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer. And if struck with a little water inside it has some talking ability. This bowl is smooth and tactile, and a delight to hold and play.
This 19th century bowl has the high-sided walls and flat bottom that characterize the Thadobati form. The walls gently curve in towards the rim, below which are two bands of closely punched dots and an incised line forming a decorative collar. The lip is grooved. There are two sets of incised circles on the inside floor of the bowl, and a pair of lines around the midpoint of the outer wall. It also benefits from a small but nicely engraved inscription.
This bowl is in excellent structural condition. It has a lovely golden bronze colour and is virtually blemish free.
A teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
