19th Century Thadobati Singing & Talking Bowl – C4 & F#5 – Suns

SOLD

Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl. Notes: C4 & F#5 (Root & Heart Chakras)

Weight: 1.0 kilos (2 lb 3 oz).  Size: 18.5 x 9 cm (7 ¼ x 3 ½ inches)

This Thadobati Singing Bowl with its near straight-sided wall, faintly grooved sheered lip, and flat bottom is believed to date from the 19th Century, but could be older.

It is thicker and heavier than usual and features a decorative collar of sun motifs (punched dot inside a circle) found on older Thadobati bowls, and circles at its centre.  It has a rare and excellent ‘talking voice’ when struck or played and rocked back and forth with a little water inside.  Talking bowls are extremely rare, and are highly prized by shamans for their ability to connect and communicate with the spirit world.

This old Thadobati has a beautiful near perfect pitch middle octave C4 (260Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave F#5 (732Hz) with a wooden ringer.

This bowl is in excellent structural condition, quite clean but with some patches of copper oxidization inside, and an aged patina from long use outside.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
