Weight 1.39 kilos (3 lb x 1¼ oz). Size 25 x 8 cm (10 x 3 inches)
This is a rare antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with two voices…a perfect pitch third octave C (131Hz) when struck with a padded mallet, and a nice middle F# (375Hz) when played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer.
This Manipuri bowl is exceptionally large and heavy for this bowl form, with a diameter of 10 inches being well above the average 8 inches, and weighing over 3 pounds. It has been well forged and has attractive hammer marks to it’s outer wall, circles at the centre and decorative bands encircling the rim.
It is in good structural condition, clean on the outside with nicely aged patina, but with some copper oxidization inside that might benefit from a clean.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.
