Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes A2/G#2 (Third Eye & Throat Chakras)
Weight 1.48 kilos (3 lb 4 oz). Size 24 x 10 cm (9 ½ x 4 inches)
This is a medium size multi-harmonic Jambati Singing Bowl dating from the 19th Century. The fundamental note varies a little according to the type of striker and where on the bowl’s wall it is struck. It produces a low second octave A2 (107Hz) when struck with a padded mallet, but a second octave G#2 when struck or played around the rim with a suede ringer. An unusually large number of harmonics are present when played around the rim with a wooden ringer including D4 (300Hz), Eb4 (303Hz) and C#5 (567Hz).
This is a nice quality bowl with even walls, a sheered lip, and circles at its centre. It is structurally sound and stain-free with some copper oxidization inside, and has a golden bronze colour.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, padded striker, and teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
