Antique Jambati Singing Bowl – Superb Voice & Great Fountains!

This is an exceptionally fine top quality antique Tibetan singing bowl with a superb voice…a wonderfully haunting third octave D fundamental with a long sustain.  It initially sings the same lovely low D when played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer, but the note gradually changes and builds to a powerful and beautiful mid octave A.  However, it’s easy to keep the rim note steady at D3 if desired, by simply easing back on the pressure and slowing the pace.  Both notes are superb.  With a little water inside, this bowl will also produced excellent fountains.

This is an exceptionally large Tibetan bowl, and at almost 5 pounds one of the heaviest in our collection.  It has the typical Jambati form…gracefully curved walls, a wide triangulated inward-facing lip, incised banding below the rim and concentric circles on the inside floor.  It is extremely well made and in an excellent state of preservation for its age, the only cosmetic flaw being two barely noticeable nicks on the inside edge of the lip  (they have no impact whatsoever on the sound quality, and I doubt if anyone else would have even mentioned them).  This bowl has a nice antique gold colour and attractive hammer markings inside and out that provide lots of surface interest.
