Rare Antique Tibetan Lingam Singing Bowl.  F Note (Heart Chakra)

Weight 2 lb 14 ½ oz (1.32 kilos).   20 ½ x 9 cm (approx. 8 ¼ x 3 ½ inches)

 

This is a heavy and characterful Lingam singing bowl of considerable age with an excellent F sharp voice whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer.  It has the classic Lingam form with its relatively low profile and large mouth, and a wide triangulated and grooved lip that is slightly undulating and inward sloping, again fairly typical of this lingam form.  Inside the basin there is a very nice central lingam surrounded by two groups of concentric circles radiating out from the centre.  The external wall has attractive hammer marking resulting from the forging process, while the underside features a large central navel.

 

This Lingam bowl has a certain presence, a gravitas, about it…and the look and feel of antiquity.
