Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl. B3 (Crown Chakra)
Weight 0 lb 14 ½ oz. (441g). 16 x 5.5 cm (approx. 6 ½ x 2 ¼ inches)
This antique Manipuri bowl has a low third octave B voice that is quite close to concert pitch when struck, but especially when played around the rim with a suede ringer. However, if a wooden ringer is used the rim note gradually changes to a fifth octave F.
The bowl is nicely proportioned and balanced, weight for size, and fits neatly into the palm of the hand for playing. It is also very responsive and easy to play.
This is an older bowl. The lip is decorated with sun motifs (punched dots within circles) and there is a band of small decorative gashes just below the outer rim. There is also evidence of a decorative pattern in the centre of the bowl, but this has mostly worn away with the passage of time.
The bowl is in excellent structural condition, and has an attractive antique gold colour. A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
