Antique Manipuri Singing & Talking Bowl. A Note (Third Eye Chakra)
Weight 1 lb 9 ½ oz (721g). 20 x 7 cm (approx. 8 x 2 ¾ inches)
This is a very nice quality antique Tibetan Manipuri Singing Bowl. It is quite weighty and large for this type of bowl and is in good condition for its age. It has a typically shallow profile, an excellent grooved lip, thick smooth walls and some decorative banding below the outer rim.
The fundamental note is a low 3rd octave A when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. If a wooden ringer is used the rim note changes to an extremely high Eb6. Strike it with a little water inside and rock it from side to side, and this bowl has quite a good talking voice…an unusual attribute for a Manipuri bowl.
Altogether an attractive and versatile singing bowl!
