This is a large Tibetan Thadobati Singing Bowl with an excellent and virtually concert pitch fundamental note…a middle octave C whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. It is very responsive and easy to play, and with a little water inside it will also produce nice fountains.
This is a top quality bowl dating from the 19th century. It has a grooved lip and decorative incised bands below the rim and around its outer belly. There are also two bands of fine gash marks of a type associated with older Thadobati bowls, just below the lip, and two sets of concentric circles in the centre of the basin. It is structurally sound, and quite clean for its age. A teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
Altogether a very attractive bowl with a great voice and the look and feel of antiquity!
