Antique Tibetan Tingsha – Eb7
Diameter 12 cm (4 ¾ inches), Weight 571 grams.
This set of antique Tibetan Tingsha has been cast in a bronze alloy and is the original matched pair. Each cymbal has a dot-punched inscription or mantra on the top. The inscriptions are slightly different in character and placement, and might have been done at different times.
The note is a high seventh octave Eb7 (2457Hz) with harmonic overtones. It is supplied uncleaned as found, and has an aged patina. It would benefit from restringing in leather.
Tingsha are pairs of small cymbals used in Tibetan Buddhist prayers and rituals. They are sometimes used in meditation practices to help focus the mind. Antique sets are now quite rare and sought-after.
