This incredible hand-carved bone shaman’s phurba or ritual dagger from Bhutan is nothing short of a work of art!  It features a large carved human skull wearing a small dorje crown.  Below the skull there is a stylized dorje hilt with endless knots leading to a wonderful Makara featuring a mythical horned sea creature and a jagged 3-sided blade decorated with nagas.

 

 

  

The age of this highly original and decorative ritual phurba is unknown, but it is unquestionably one of the finest examples of bone carving I have encountered.
