This is a particularly unusual small pot-shaped Lingam Singing Bowl with a high fifth octave F5 (691Hz) fundamental note when struck and (694Hz) when played around the rim with a wooden ringer.

 

 

It has a gently curved high-sided wall and a rounded bottom, and fits comfortably in the palm of the hand for playing. It has a distinctive flanged lip with a pair of decorative incised lines around the outer rim.  There is a neat lingam surrounded by circles at its centre but, unusually, no navel underneath.

 

This rare and utterly charming little Lingam bowl is believed to date from the 18th century and is in excellent structural condition with an attractive aged patina.
