Enchanting Small Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl – E4

This small high quality antique Thadobati Singing Bowl is a real gem.  It has been extremely well forged…the lip is level, the walls are of an even thickness, and it has an attractive decorative band around the outer rim.  The smoothness of this band contrasts with the slightly textured surface below, adding considerably to its visual and tactile interest.  An intriguing band of triangular gashes encircle the bowl below the collar.  These may be ritual cuts or purely decorative in nature, but are of a type I usually associate with older, pre 19th century, bowls.

 

The fundamental note is a very nice mid octave E whether struck or played around the rim.  This bowl fits snugly into the palm of the hand for playing and, rather surprisingly, it also has some talking ability.

 

This bowl is in excellent clean condition.  It has a lovely golden colour and the feel of antiquity.
