This is a large and versatile antique Tibetan Thadobati Singing Bowl of exceptional quality.  It is extremely rare to come across such a superb bowl, and is without doubt one of the best of its kind in our collection.

It has a really beautiful singing voice…a third octave F with a long sustain, and if struck and rocked with a little water inside it has impressive talking capabilities.  Add a little more water and play it around the rim and it will energetically and eagerly produce splashy fountains!

I believe this beautiful bowl dates from the 19^th century.  Weighing over 1.5 kilos it is unusually large and heavy for a Thadobati.  It has a grooved lip, and just below the outer rim there are two bands of fine dots or gash marks of a kind associated with older bowls of this type.  There are two sets of decorative concentric circles in the centre of the basin, and evidence of a single circle underneath.

This antique bowl is structurally sound, virtually free of stains and blemishes, and very clean for its age.  It has a lovely golden colour.  A teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
