Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl. Notes: E3 & Bb4 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)
Weight 1.37 kilos (3 lb 0 ½ oz). Size 24 x 8 cm (9 ½ x 3 ¼ inches)
This is an exceptionally rare large superior quality antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with a perfect pitch third octave E fundamental (164Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a middle Bb4 (472Hz) with a wooden ringer.
It is very unusual to find a Manipuri of this size, weight, and quality…and bowls with inscriptions are very rare indeed. Inscriptions, when present, are normally found on the outer wall and are quite small. This bowl features a huge interior dot-punched inscription located all the way around the inner rim! Inscriptiions always add interest and value as they are a fair indication of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.
It has been skilfully crafted with a thick even wall and a level grooved lip. There are circles at its centre and decorative bands around the outer rim.
This fabulous antique Manipuri bowl is in superb structural condition, clean and virtually stain-free, with a bright golden bronze colour.
A Tibetan silk brocade cushion, a striker, and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
