Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: E4 (Solar Plexus Chakra)
Weight 1.3 kilos (2 lb 14 oz). Size 19.5 x 10 cm (7 ¾ x 4 inches)
This rare and perfectly proportioned pot-shaped antique Lingam Singing Bowl is simply stunning. It is a personal favorite and one of the most beautiful bowls I have encountered in over 30 years of collecting. It’s quite heavy for its size and has been superbly crafted with a prominent flanged and grooved lip, a large central lingam surrounded by circles, with a deep navel or yoni underneath. Incised bands form a decorative collar below the rim, and low down the outer wall.
The fundamental note is a lovely middle E4 (336Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. When struck the globular shape of the bowl seems to produce the sound from with and amplify it, and there is the sense that one can carry the note around inside the bowl while it emanates from its opening.
This rare and wonderful antique Lingam bowl is in excellent museum quality condition and supplied ‘as found’ with the colour and patina of great use and antiquity.
A gem of a bowl!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, padded striker, and a ringer are all included in the price.
