Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl.  E3 (1117-162Hz) Solar Plexus Chakra

Weight 5 lb 1 ¼ oz (2.31 kilos).  26 x 12.5 cm (approx. 10 ¼ x 5 inches)

This is a huge bowl for a Thadobati.  It’s most unusual for this type of bowl to have a diameter of more than 8 inches, or 9 at the most.  This bowl is 10 ¼ inches, and it is exceptionally heavy too…weighing over 5 pounds!  My guess is that it’s something of a one-off…with a typical flat Thadobati bottom but with a wall that is thicker and more curved than usual.  It has a faintly grooved lip, circles at its centre, and several incised lines at intervals around its wall.  There are two decorative bands of cuts below the rim, as well as some randomly placed ritual cuts here and there.  There is also a small inscription, something rarely found on a Thadobati bowl, and a fair indication of the high esteem in which a former keeper held it.

The fundamental note is an excellent and uncommon third octave E when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a Bb4 (460/2Hz) with an A5 harmonic (868Hz) if a wooden ringer is used).

This interesting and unusual bowl is in excellent condition: clean and virtually free of stains or blemishes.  It has attractive contrasting surfaces on the outer wall, and a particularly nice golden bronze colour.   A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
