Antique Bronze Temple Handbell with Garuda and Hanuman
Size: 9 x 3 ¼ inches (23 x 8 cm)
This is one of the finest examples of an antique bronze priests handbell that I have encountered. It has been superbly modeled and hand cast in a bronze alloy by the lost wax method and is therefore a unique one-off item.
At the top it features two well-defined praying deities on a plinth. On the left the mythical Garuda bird with outstretched wings, and on the right Hanuman the monkey God. Five protective snakes (nagas) fan out behind them. On the back, behind the deities, there is a built-in ring for hanging.
A twisted spiral handle leads, via several ornate tiers, to the bell itself, which features a lotus decoration on top and multiple decorative bands. The rung note is a seventh octave C7 (2098Hz).
This handbell It is in superb museum quality condition. It is a beautiful object in its own right, and has a wonderful antique golden colour with an aged patina.
Note: Audio clips coming soon.
When you buy, handle, and ring one of these antique bells you can be confident that it is a genuine and revered holy instrument that has played an important part in countless sacred rituals and ceremonies for at least 100 years. Each bell is a fascinating and beautiful object in its own right, with the look and feel of antiquity…but perhaps more importantly, when it is rung one can sense the spiritual energy, power and purpose with which it is imbued, and the present ineffably connects to the past.
