Exquisite Rare Extra-Thick Antique Lingam Singing & Talking Bowl – Inscription

SOLD

Rare Antique Singing Bowl. Notes: B3 & F#5 (Crown & Heart Chakras)

Weight: 947 grams (2 lb 1 ½ oz).   Size: 18 x 10 cm (7 x 4 inches)

This is an exquisite extra-thick antique Lingam Singing and Talking Bowl with 2 excellent voices.  The fundamental note is a third octave B3 (257Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave F#5 (730Hz) with a wooden ringer.

Furthermore it has an excellent talking voice when struck or played and rocked back and forth with a little water inside.  Talking bowls are extremely rare, especially among lingams, and are highly prized by shamans for their ability to connect and communicate with the spirit world.

This bowl has been exquisitely and expertly forged, and to my mind is perfectly proportioned and the right shape and size for everyday hand-held playing.   Its high-sided wall is gently curved and thicker than average.  It has a grooved lip and a rounded bottom.  The pointed Lingam at its centre is surrounded by a set of circles, and there is a nice matching naval or yoni underneath.  The outer rim is decorated with two parallel rows of tiny dots.

There is a nice inscription engraved on the outer wall, probably in an old form of Farsi, the meaning of which is unknown.   Very few bowls carry inscriptions.  They are a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.

This antique bowl is structurally sound, clean, and free of stains and blemishes, with an aged patina.   Fabulous!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
