Antique Singing, Talking and Fountain Bowl.  F#3 (Heart Chakra)

This very rare and extraordinary antique bowl was described as a ‘Shaman Bowl’ by a trusted Tibetan supplier, although at the time of writing I am unsure if this is because he acquired it from a Shaman or if it is a type of bowl that some Himalayan Shaman use in their work.  It is undoubtedly an uncommon bowl form, and has a shape that would readily lend itself to the layering and mixing of shamanic medicinal preparations.

However, apart from its shape, what really distinguishes this particular bowl is its spectrum of extraordinary sonic abilities that include singing, talking and the production of spectacular splashy fountains!

The fundamental note is a third octave F# (198Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note is quite unusual and close to concert pitch (196Hz).   This bowl also will produce amazingly vibrant and splashy fountains (stand well back) that leap right out of the basin if played with water inside.  It will also simultaneously produce a variety of talking and squealing sounds!

This is a large bowl with a diameter of 8¾ inches.  Its smooth curved wall looks similar to that of a Remuna bowl, but this bowl is shallower and lower in height.  This old bowl (circa 1800) has seen a lot of use in its life and it is now completely smooth to the touch inside and out, and any decorative features it might once have possessed have virtually disappeared with the passage of time. It’s a very sensual bowl to hold…and beautiful to look at too.  It is structurally sound and clean, with a nice golden colour with a hint of hammer markings to add surface interest.  A padded striker and a suede ringer are both included in the price.
