This is a fine example of a top quality Jambati Singing Bowl.  It has all the physical and sonic characteristics of this bowl type with its classical well-proportioned body, finely-hammered walls, grooved lip, and decorative banding.   The fundamental note when struck or played around the rim is an excellent third octave C (132Hz) that is close to concert pitch.  The rim note, if desired, will gradually evolve into a G#4 (408Hz) with a suede ringer, the same note that is produced when a wooden ringer is used.

This golden bronze bowl is in fabulous clean condition, and features an incised cross set within the decorative band below the outer rim (just avoiding the playing edge).  I have come across this incised cross several times before on large Jambati bowls, always in the same place, and believe it to be a makers mark or, more likely, a blessing, as no-one would deliberately and so precisely deface such a beautiful and valuable sacred object.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a striker, and a ringer are all included in the price.

listen: (2 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede then wood ringer)

PS. This antique bowl is part of my original collection, and having visited Nepal 7 times in the last 18 months I cannot stress enough how hard it has become to source genuine antiques of this size and quality, with bowls over 11 inches (28cm) now almost impossible to find.
