Fabulous Rare Large Eb5 Antique Mani Singing Bowl in ‘As Found’ Condition

This is a very large and excellent example of an Antique Mani Singing bowl in its “as found’ condition, with all its original features preserved and well defined.  This wonderful old bowl could be cleaned up and polished, but in my view it would be a pity to destroy the patina and grime of antiquity if the bowl sings well…and it does!  The fundamental is a fifth octave Eb (630Hz) with a strong beat when struck or played.  It’s a responsive bowl and easy to play around the rim with a wooden ringer.

It has all the typical characteristics of this ancient bowl form…flat bottom, bulbous tapering walls, wide inward-facing grooved lip, circles at its centre including an ‘eye’, and decorative bands around the outer rim and its belly.  It is in superb structurally sound condition, and one of the finest examples of its kind.

Antique Mani bowls are generally thought to be between 200 and 400 years old and are now extremely rare. 

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
