This large and characterful 18^th century Thadobati Singing Bowl has a remarkable and commanding physical presence when compared to many of its more regular brethren. 

Its super-thick and straight high-sided walls are taller than average and its grooved lip a little thicker. 

It would have been a difficult and challenging bowl to forge.  This is evident in the slight lumpiness of its outer surface and the lingering presence of some hammer marks despite countless years of service.  Many of its original decorative features have been worn down with the passage of time, in particular the two rows of tiny dot-like cuts that encircle the bowl just below the rim, and some of the incised bands around its outer wall, but the concentric circles at its centre remain well-defined.

The fundamental note of this bowl is a middle octave F with a frequency of 356Hz.  The note is the same whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer (both supplied).

A particularly attractive feature of this ancient singing bowl is its slightly bruised outer surface, rich patina, and antique bronze colour…all of which combine to convey an immediate sense of its past.
