Engraved Ceremonial Jambati Singing Bowl G2 & Eb5 (Throat & Solar Plexus Chakras)

Weight 1.81 kilos (3 lb 15 ¾ oz).   Size 28 x 13 cm (11 x 5 inches)

This is a large 11 inch antique Ceremonial Jambati singing bowl from Bangladesh and is one of the finest hand-beaten and engraved bowl that I have encountered in 30 years of collecting, and a true work of art! Furthermore it has two excellent voices, including a concert pitch Eb5 harmonic.

Almost the entire outer wall has been engraved.  The subject appears to be a hunting scene set in a forest with two horseback riders with sabers and a musket, and eight jungle and mythical winged animals including lions, elephants and deer.  This stunning bowl, along with 4 others, was purchased by myself in Kathmandu from the only known source of this type; a Bangladeshi bowl dealer who brought a few to Nepal in a suitcase to sell.  He said the motifs were taken from carpets and traditional paintings.

This old bowl has been superbly forged and is structurally sound and in superb condition.  It is difficult to date as it is one-of-a-kind, but I am confident that the bowl itself is antique. The incredible decoration is unique and unlike any of the modern engraved or etched bowls found in Nepal today.   It is an example of the finest craftsmanship to be found anywhere in the singing bowl world.

The fundamental struck note is a low second octave G2 (98.5Hz) that is quite close to concert pitch.  The rim note is the same but includes a perfect pitch fifth octave Eb5 (622Hz) harmonic.  This bowl is also capable of producing fountains if played with water inside, and the vibrant OM sound if played around the rim with a heavy suede ringer.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker, and a ringer are all included in the price.
