Weight 2.11 kilos (4 lb 10 ½ oz). Size 29 x 14 cm (11 ½ x 5 ½ inches)
This handsome antique Jambati Singing Bowl has a rare and lovely low second octave E fundamental and a third octave B harmonic. Both the struck and rim notes are a vibrant low E2 (81.5Hz) but the rim note will readily move to a B3 (243Hz) if desired.
This particularly good-looking deep-bodied antique bowl has attractive hammer markings, a sheered lip, circles at its centre, and a single decorative incised line forming a collar around the outer rim. Unlike most large bowls it is relatively light for its size, and therefore comfortable to hold and play for an extended period without tiring.
It is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free, but with an inexplicable scuff (not a repair) on a small area of the outer wall that creates a gap in the incised collar.
It’s a cosmetic imperfection that has no impact on the sound, but warrants a small price reduction on an otherwise stunning antique bowl. This bowl has a lovely golden bronze colour.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and ringer are all included in the price.
