Heavy 8 ¼” Antique Jambati Singing Bowl – Huge Sustain G3 & C#5
SOLD
Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes G3 & C#5 (Throat & Root Chakras)
Weight 1.43 kilos (3 lb 2 ½ oz). Size 21 x 11 cm (8 ¼ x 4 ¼ inches)
This antique Jambati Singing Bowl is around 50% heavier than average for its size, and its exceptionally thick walls would have been a challenge to forge. This probably accounts for its boldly hammered surface and the wall being a little higher on one side than the other (see below). This would not be particularly noticeable were it not for the level decorative banding around the outer rim. If one can ignore this slight irregularity the bowl is otherwise really rather special.
The fundamental note is a superb third octave G (194Hz) with a huge sustain when struck. The note is the same when played around the rim with a suede ringer, but changes to a fifth octave C# with a wooden one.
This substantial Jambati bowl has a considerable presence. It is structurally sound and clean, and the mottled hammered surface is particularly attractive. It also has a deep golden colour and a nice antique look and feel to it.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a small padded striker and a ringer are included in the price.
