Heavy Antique Hybrid Singing Bowl – Concert Pitch F#3 (184Hz)

This interesting antique hybrid singing bowl combines the graceful curved form of a Jambati with the flat bottom of a Thadobati. It has thicker walls than is commonly found in both types of bowl and is quite heavy for its size.   It has a grooved lip and decorative bands encircling the outer rim. The circles at its centre are now barely visible; having been worn down over the years.

It has a rather lovely third octave F# fundamental (184Hz) when struck or played around the rim with a suede ringer, and a nice fifth octave C# (550Hz) when played with a wooden one. The F#3 is virtually concert pitch.

This bowl probably dates from the 18th century. It is in excellent structural condition and has a particularly interesting and attractive surface patina and colouration.
