This large Jambati bowl probably dates from around 1900, perhaps a little later. It has an exceptionally beautiful pulsating third octave Eb3 (157Hz) voice with a long sustain. The note is the same whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.
This large and heavy Jambati bowl has a boldly incised decorative collar below the rim, circles at its centre, and attractive hammer markings to its outer wall. It has a lovely golden bronze colour and is in excellent structural condition.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.

Listen: (2 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede then wood ringer).
PS. This antique bowl is part of my original collection, and having visited Nepal 7 times in the last 18 months I cannot stress enough how hard it has become to source genuine antiques of this size and quality, with bowls over 11 inches (28cm) now almost impossible to find.
