This huge, heavy and beautiful antique Jambati Singing Bowl would normally be priced at around £1,200 but my hawk-eyes have spotted a flaw in its construction that suggests it has suffered a small injury that has been expertly repaired, possibly at the time of its making…a small gap in the decorative banding below the rim gives it away (see main photo bottom left).   

It’s not something that most people would notice, and certainly not from the quality of its voice, which is excellent, but it’s a cosmetic issue that reduces the bowl’s value as far as I am concerned.  I have therefore discounted its price by £400 to £800 and it now represents excellent value for such a large 19th century singing bowl.

This handsome full-bodied Jambati is otherwise beautifully forged with fine even walls, a level lip, and subtle hammer markings inside and out.  The fundamental note is a very nice low second octave F# (94Hz) that is capable of producing the resonant OM sound with a heavy suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a C#5 (557Hz) if a wooden ringer is used.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.
