Antique Jambati Singing Bowl – B2 (126 Hz) Crown Chakra
Weight 3.04 kilos (6 lb 11¼ oz). Size 12½ x 5 inches (31.5 x 13 cm)
This is an exceptionally heavy antique Jambati singing bowl with a low second octave B (126Hz) fundamental. The note is the same whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. It’s too heavy to hold for long and is best played with the bowl resting on a mat or cushion. This bowl has a relatively low height to width ratio and an interesting and unusual shape that is slightly conical. It has a slightly rustic and unrefined look to it, with surfaces that are a little irregular and decorative banding that lacks perfect precision. My guess is that its sheer size and weight made this a particularly difficult bowls to forge. Nonetheless, it’s an interesting bowl with an attractive low voice.
