Huge 13 ¼ Inch Jambati OM Bowl – Wonderful Bb2 Tone

SOLD

Antique Tibetan Jambati Singing Bowl. Bb2 Note (Crown Chakra)

Weight 9 lb 11 oz (4 Kilos). 33.5 x 17 cm (13 ¼ x 6 ¾ inches)

This is a wonderful old bowl of the finest quality, with a beautiful deep full-bodied form and a stunning high-sided profile. It is both huge and heavy…with a diameter of 13 ¼ inches, a height of 6 ¾ inches, and weighing 4 kilos it is considerably heavier than most bowls this size.

This stunning antique bowl has a wide inward-facing triangulalated grooved lip, and a large incised decorative collar bordering the outer rim. This decorative band is particularly attractive as its golden colour and unusual smooth surface contrasts brilliantly with the beautiful mottled hammer marks that cover the rest of the bowl’s outer surface. The inside floor has several decorative incised concentric circles at its centre.

The sound of this antique singing bowl is exceptional. The struck and played notes are the same…a wonderful low second octave Bb. The rim note is particularly beautiful and slowly builds to a resonant OM sound that one associates with Buddhist chants. This bowl will also produce excellent fountains if played with a little water inside.

I believe this to be an older Jambati bowl dating from the 18th or early 19th century. The quality of this bowl, its superior sound, and the excellent state of preservation, suggest that it would not be out of place in a temple.

Apart from some light staining inside and minor surface bruising of no consequence on the outside, this bowl is in truly exceptional condition for its age. Indeed it is one of the most handsome bowls we have seen.

Huge antique bowls of this size and quality are very rare indeed.  This one has the look and feel of age and antiquity…and an incredible voice!

The price includes a Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion; a large padded striker, and a teak and suede ringer.

Listen: (2 struck notes and 2 played notes, the first with the bowl on a cushion, the second handheld).

Note: As this is an unusually heavy bowl there will be a surcharge to cover the additional cost of shipping and insurance to destinations outside the UK.  Overseas buyers will later be invoiced at cost for any shipping and insurance shortfall (estimated to be around $100 to USA and Canada).
