Antique Jambati Singing Bowl – C3 (Root Chakra)
Weight 3.76 kilos (8 lb 4 ½ oz) 13 x 6 ¼ inches (33 x 15 cm)
This is a huge and majestic antique Jambati Singing Bowl weighing well over 3 ¾ kilos and with a diameter of 13 inches! Its great weight and size has a voice to match…a fabulous pulsating third octave C (133 Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.
It has a beautiful deep-bodied (high) wall, a large inward facing triangulated grooved lip, large concentric circles at its centre, and several incised lines forming a collar below the rim. Its closely hammered forge markings on the outer wall add surface interest and reflect the light.
This bowl appears to be structurally sound in all respects but on close inspection there are some very fine surface scratches or cracks on the inside floor. They do NOT penetrate the bowl and appear to be totally stable and extremely unlikely to deepen or lengthen, but they may account for an occasional slight few-second buzz when the bowl is struck a HARD full-force blow. All normal-force strikes produce a pure and beautiful note without the slightest hint of a buzz, and when played around the rim the sound is equally excellent.
In view of the aforementioned issue I am offering this wonderful old bowl for less than half the normal price.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker, and a teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
Listen: (1 normal stuck note, 1 played note, and finally 1 full-force strike)
Note: As this is an unusually heavy bowl there will be a surcharge to cover the additional cost of shipping and insurance to destinations outside the UK. Overseas buyers will later be invoiced at cost for any shipping and insurance shortfall (estimated to be around $100 to USA and Canada).
