Antique Jambati Singing Bowl.  G2 Note (96.5Hz) Throat Chakra

Weight 3.18 Kilos (7 lb 0 oz).   Size 31.5 x 15.5 cm (approx. 12 ½ x 6 ¼ inches)

This huge, heavy and handsome deep-bodied Jambati bowl has a wonderfully sonorous low second octave G voice when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  It has a pronounced pulse and a very long sustain.  The rim note is full of vibrant energy and this bowl is capable of producing a beautiful and haunting low OM sound when moderate pressure is applied to the ringer.  A little more pressure will bring out the normal G2.  The fundamental note is quite close to perfect concert pitch.   This bowl is also capable of producing excellent fountains if played with a little water inside.

This premium quality bowl probably dates from the early 20th century, possibly a little earlier.  Its wall is of an even thickness throughout and an attractive surface of small hammer marks that reflect the light.  There are circles at its centre and incised lines below the rim that form a decorative collar.

The bowl is in excellent structural condition and has a nice golden bronze colour.  The external wall is clean and virtually free of blemishes.  There are a few patches of copper oxidization inside and some light surface discoloration, quite possibly arising from the forging process, neither of which impact on the sound or beauty of the bowl.  A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.
