Huge, Heavy and Handsome – Low G Note

Old Himalayan Ultabati Singing & Fountain Bowl. G Note (Throat Chakra)
Weight 5 lb 12 ¼ oz (2.61 kilos). 30.5 x 15 cm (approx. 12 x 6 inches)
This huge and spectacular old Ultabati singing bowl has thicker walls than most, and at 5 ¾ pounds is a real heavyweight! It also has a wonderfully mottled outer surface and a particularly lovely shape as can be seen from the photographs. It features an exceptionally thick and grooved downward-sloping lip, a series of concentric circles on the inside floor and another pair forming a collar about 1 ½ inches (4 cm) below the lip.
This stunning old bowl has the most incredible sound…a very low and beautiful 2nd Octave G Sharp fundamental that hums and rhythmically pulses for an age. When stuck with a heavy mallet this bowl is capable of filling a large hall with sound, but its extra-thick walls also respond to a gentle tap and produce a purity of sound that is very nice to listen to close-up. The struck note and the played rim note are the same. With a little water inside this bowl will also readily produce fountains.
Ultabati singing bowls of this size and quality are extremely rare, and the excellent and clean condition of this one suggests that it has served some ceremonial or musical purpose during its lifetime.
