Antique Jambati Singing Bowl.  Notes A2/G#2 & E4 (Third Eye & Throat Chakras)

Weight 2.83 kilos (6 lb ¾ oz).  Size 31 x 15.5 cm (12 1.4 x 6 ¼ inches)

This glorious large deep-bodied antique Jambati Singing Bowl has sufficient merit to have been culturally important, and might well have played a ceremonial role within a Himalayan community or temple.

It has a beautiful low second octave fundamental that hovers midway between a rare second octave A2 note (107Hz) and a second octave G#2 (106Hz).  The primary struck note is the A2 but it flickers back and forth because the two notes are only about 1 Hz apart.  The rim note can be either according to the type of suede ringer employed, and the pressure applied.  This bowl has a lot of vibrant energy and a heavy suede ringer will also produce the much sought-after rumbling OM sound.  The rim note changes to a middle E (326Hz) with a wooden ringer. And I have no doubt that this bowl is capable of producing excellent fountains if played with a little water inside.

This handsome full-bodied Jambati bowl has a plain triangulated lip, circles at its centre and decorative bands around the outer rim.  Its wonderful hand-beaten and dark leopard-spot outer surface adds to its sense of gravitas and weight.  It is structurally sound save for an aged hairline crack across part of its floor.  I am confident this is entirely stable and extremely unlikely to spread.  It has no discernable impact on the sound quality, which is superb.  However, in view of this imperfection I have reduced the price by one third.

Finally, Jambati singing bowls are rarely inscribed, but this bowl carries a long dot-punched inscription set between the incised bands around the rim…a sure sign of the high esteem in which it was held by a previous keeper.

A truly exceptional and beautiful antique bowl that will grace any collection!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.
