This is certainly one of the very best old Himalayan Ultabati bowls we have been privileged to acquire, and at 2.8 kilos (approx. 6 ½ pounds) it’s one of the largest and heaviest.  It’s a very handsome bowl too, with good proportions and subtle coloration, and in virtually perfect condition.  This bowl has been really cared for throughout its life.

 

Huge Ultabati Singing BowlThis caldron-shaped bowl has a stunning low second octave E flat voice whether stuck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a heavy suede ringer.   The struck note is sonorous, pulsating and beautiful, and quite close to concert pitch.  The played note is extremely multi-harmonic and begins as a deep OM sound with such vibrational energy that it passes through the ringer and up one’s arm and into the shoulder before building to a wonderful pulsating Eb2.  Ultabati singing bowls don’t come any better than this!

 

This bowl is for the serious collector or specialist practitioner.
