Antique Ultabati Singing Bowl.   Amazing A1 (55Hz) Third Eye Chakra

Weight 4 lb 1¼ oz. (1.85 kilos).   Size 31.5 x 14.5 cm (12½ x 5¾ inches)

This spectacular old Ultabati Singing Bowl has one of the lowest notes I have encountered in 30 years of collecting…an incredible FIRST OCTAVE A with a frequency of 55-56Hz that is virtually perfect concert pitch.  This bowl has such amazing vibrant energy that one can physically feel it without touching.

The fundamental struck note is an excellent low first octave A whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a heavy suede ringer.

If played with a lightness of touch the rim note is transformed into the energetic rumbling, growling and resonant sacred OM that one associates with Tibetan Buddhist chanting.  But if a wooden ringer is used the rim note gradually moves from A1 to a middle octave D (300Hz).  And if played with a little water inside this bowl is capable of producing great splashy fountains.

This is a huge and fabulous example of the lovely cauldron-like Ultabati bowl form.  It has been superbly forged, and is extremely light for its size.  Its super-fine walls, shape, and great size combine to produce the vibrant energy needed to produce its really low note.  There are multiple concentric circles at its centre and a simple decorative band below the outer rim.  The bowl is in excellent structural condition, clean and blemish free, and may have been used for grain storage in recent years.  It has a glorious golden bronze colour.  The abundance of small hammer marks on the outer wall reflect the light and add lots of subtle surface interest.  The price includes a Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion; a large padded striker, and a teak and suede ringer.

I have attached the audio file for this bowl, but although the A1 note registers clearly on my two tuners it has proved elusive on the recorder which just seems to capture the higher harmonics.  In reality it’s the low A2 that dominates.  The OM is also a little less clear than it might be.

A truly stunning bowl in every respect!
