This characterful old Thadobati Singing Bowl probably dates from the mid 18thcentury. It has many of its original decorative features intact including a decorative band of suns (punched dots surrounded by circles) encircling the outer rim.
The fundamental note is an uncommon third octave A (220-224Hz) that borders on concert pitch when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim. It also has some talking ability when played and rocked back and forth with a little water inside.
This is an interesting and characterful old bowl with the look and feel of antiquity, and in very nice condition for its age.
A Tibetan silk brocade cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
