Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes E3/F3 (Solar Plexus & Heart Chakras)
Weight 1.6 kilos (3 lb 8 ¼ oz). Size 26 x 11.5 cm (10 ¼ x 4 ½ inches)
This is a large flat-bottomed antique Jambati Singing Bowl with an excellent third octave E fundamental (169Hz) with a gentle pulse and a good sustain when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note is F3 (170Hz) with a suede ringer but changes to a fifth octave C (518Hz) with a wooden one.
This antique Jambati bowl has finely beaten walls making it relatively light for its size. It has a triangulated grooved lip with decorative banding below the outer rim, and circles at its centre that are now faint, having been worn away with the passage of time.
This well used bowl is structurally sound and basically clean, but with some copper oxidization inside. It probably dates from the 1800s and has the patina, look and feel of antiquity.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, padded mallet, and a ringer are all included in the price.
