This large antique Jambati Singing Bowl is supplied in its ‘as found’ condition with all its aged patina intact, although it could be cleaned if desired. Personally I like it as it is.
Its fundamental note is a low and rather haunting second octave E (82Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. This rare note is all the more special for being perfect concert pitch. The rim note changes to a third octave Bb (236Hz) if a wooden ringer is employed.
This is an older bowl, shallower than usual, with a finely beaten wall and a sheered lip. There are circles at its centre but, unusually, no banding around the outer rim.
The condition of this bowl is excellent, with only slight copper oxidization on the interior floor. The outer wall has the patina and grim of an object that has not seen soap and water for many a year, but this only adds vintage authenticity in my opinion. Its matt mottled brown bronze colour lends gravitas.
A Tibetan silk brocade cushion, a padded striker, and a suede ringer are all included in the price.
