Ultabati Singing Bowl.  Note B1 & F3.  Crown & Heart Chakras

Weight 1.76 kilos (3 lb 14 oz).  Size 28.5 x 13.5 cm (11 ¼ x 5 ¼ inches)

This large and beautiful Ultabati Singing Bowl has an exceptionally rare first octave fundamental…a B1 (61Hz)…the first I have come across in decades.   It is also very close to concert pitch.  The second harmonic is a third octave F (173Hz) that is also close to perfect pitch.  Both notes are present when the bowl is struck or played around the rim, but it’s possible to separate them with a little practice.

This is a modern bowl, probably late 20th century, but its superb quality and rare first octave B1 make it well worth collecting.  It has been beautifully forged.  The walls are very finely hammered, making the bowl lightweight for its size, and the outer surface particularly attractive.

There is a small area on the outside that was scraped when the bowl was forged (see photo) but this blends in well and is of no consequence in my opinion.

It has the distinctive Ultabati caldron-like form with a scooped or flared neck and an out-turned downward-sloping lip.  There are decorative circles at its centre, and finely incised lines separating the smooth golden area above the shoulder from the mottled hammered surface below.   This beautiful bowl is clean throughout and structurally sound.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
