This is an exceptionally large fine quality antique Thadobati Singing Bowl with an excellent voice…a beautiful pulsating and low third octave Bb fundamental whether struck or played around the rim with a ringer. The Bb fundamental is sometimes accompanied by a subtle and very lovely A3 harmonic. This bowl is smooth and tactile, and a delight to hold and play! It will also make great fountains if played around the rim with a little water inside.
This 19th century bowl has the thick high-sided walls and wide flat bottom that characterize the Thadobati form. It has a nice level rim and grooved lip, and there are two bands of closely punched dots forming a decorative collar immediately below the rim. There are also some incised circles on the inside floor of the bowl.
This bowl is in excellent structural condition. It has a really beautiful golden colour and is virtually blemish free. Its impressive size and simplicity of form combine to produce a bowl of great presence and beauty.
This is without question one of the finest Thadobati singing bowls in our collection!
