This is an unusually large 19th century Manipuri Singing Bowl.  The fundamental note is a beautiful third octave C# (137Hz) when struck or played with a suede ringer, and a middle G (395Hz) when played around the rim with a wooden one.  It is a very responsive bowl and easy to play.

 

 

It has a grooved lip, circles at its centre, and several decorative bands encircling the outer rim, which also features some groups or sets of ritual gashes.

 

It is in exceptional clean structural condition and has a lovely antique golden bronze colour.  A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

 

A rare large example of this lovely bowl form!
