Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – A3 (Third Eye Chakra)
Weight 1.23 kilos (2 lb 11 ¼ oz)   8 ½ x 3 ¼ inches (21.5 x 8.5 cm)

This antique Lingam bowl has an attractive simplicity of form and a sumptuous golden bronze colour.

It’s a large bowl, and its slightly low profile makes its 8 ½-inch diameter appear even wider still.  This is a very old bowl of a type that is increasingly hard to come by.  It has a smallish neat nipple-like lingam at its centre and a lip that is boldly defined by a deeply incised line below the rim on the inside (a very uncommon feature).  There is a neat navel on the bottom.

There is a single decorative line on the outer wall just below the rim, but this is now quite faint, and any decorative circles that once surrounded the lingam are long gone.  This ancient bowl has very smooth walls inside and out, and is very pleasant to hold.

The fundamental note is a nice third octave A (217 Hz).  The note is the same whether struck with  a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave Eb if a wooden ringer is used.

A teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
