Large Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl – C4 & F#5 Notes
SOLD
Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl. C4 & F#5 Notes (Root & Heart Chakras)
Weight 1 lb 13 ½ oz (834g). 20 x 7 cm (approx. 8 x 2 ¾ inches)
This is a large antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with a good middle octave C fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The C4 struck note is particularly nice. However, when played around the rim with a wooden ringer the note changes from C4 to a fantastic F#5 that is very close to concert pitch.
This is a good quality Manipuri bowl, heavy for its size, with extra-thick and regular walls and an excellent grooved lip that sets this bowl apart from the vast majority of other Manipuri bowls. It is smooth inside and out, and has a bright golden colour. The outer wall has 4 decorative incised lines forming a collar below the rim, and the basin has a pair of circles at its centre. This old bowl is in excellent structural condition.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a small padded striker, and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
