Antique Naga Singing & Healing Bowl.  C#4 & F#5 Notes (Root & Heart Chakras)
Weight 2 lb 5 oz (1.05 kilos).   Size 17 x 12 cm (approx. 7 x 4¾ inches)

This is a very nice quality large antique Naga Singing and Healing Bowl with an excellent middle octave C# (268-273Hz) when struck or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The note changes to an equally nice fifth octave F# (744Hz) if a wooden ringer is used.  Both notes have considerable power or volume, and a long, long, sustain.   A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.

A unique feature of this bowl is its abundance of dot-punched animal illustrations.   More than any other Naga bowl I have come across in all my years of collecting.

There is an exceptionally long inscription that goes halfway around the rim, and is set between two drawings of mirror image fishes.

A second, smaller, inscription can be found around the other side of the rim, and is neatly fitted inside a drawing of a lizard or alligator, and book-ended between a lotus on one side and a swan on the other.  This bowl has certainly been highly regarded by at least one of its previous keepers, perhaps two.

This Naga bowl is solidly constructed and quite weighty for its size, and it has typical decorative banding below the outer rim.  It is structurally very sound, clean on the outside but with some stains inside.

A wonderful example of this bowl form…two great voices, two inscriptions, two fishes, a swan on water, an alligator and a lotus!
