Large Archetypal Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl – A3 & G#3
SOLD
Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl. Notes: A3 & G#3 (Third Eye & Throat Chakras)
Weight: 1.12 kilos (2 lb 8 oz). Size: 19.5 x 10 cm (7 ¾ x 4 inches)
This is an archetypal Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl with its high-side almost straight walls, flat bottom, and sheered lip with a simple band of decorative dots encircling its outer rim. There are some tiny circles at its centre, but any others that might once have decorated the inside floor have been worn away with use and ritual cleaning over the years.
The fundamental note is a nice third octave A3 (214Hz) when struck with a padded mallet. The rim note is a third octave G#3 (209Hz) when played with a suede ringer, and a fifth octave D5 (602Hz) with a wooden ringer.
This is a very nice example of this popular bowl type, dating from the 19th century. It is in excellent structural condition. An area of the outer wall has an interesting imprint of the jute sack in which it was stored for many years, but it is otherwise clean and free of stains.
A ringer is included in the price.
