This is a superb quality large antique Lingam bowl…heavy, smooth, thick-walled, clean, and in excellent condition. To judge by its smoothness and the way its decorative elements (grooved lip, circles, collar band) have been worn down with the passage of time, I’d say this was an older bowl, circa 1800. There is a large mounded lingam at its centre and a deep navel on the underside. It has a beautiful mellow golden bronze colour.
The sound quality of this bowl is really very good…the struck note being particularly pure and lovely, one of the sweetest I’ve heard, and with a remarkably long, long, sustain. The fundamental note is a third octave A (215 Hz).
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a suede ringer are all included in the price.
