Lotus Bud 10 ¼“ Bangladeshi Carved Antique Jambati Singing Bowl – 2 Perfect Pitch Notes

This 10 ¼” antique Bangladeshi carved Jambati Singing Bowl has virtually its entire outer wall intricately engraved with beautiful artwork based on a traditional carpet design. It features 16 stylized lotus buds surrounded by foliage.  Decorative carved borders also encircle the outer rim and the bottom of the wall.

It also, uniquely, has two fabulous perfect pitch voices!   And strangely the struck note is higher than the played one; something  I have not previously encountered.  The fundamental note is a perfect pitch middle octave F#4 (370Hz) when struck with a padded mallet, while the played note is a low Perfect Pitch second octave B2 (1234.5Hz) with a suede ringer.  The rim note reverts to the F#4 with a wooden ringer.

It has a relatively low gracefully curved wall, a plain sheered lip, and slightly rounded bottom.  The circles at its centre have been worn away with the passage of time.  It is in excellent structural condition, clean and free of stains and blemishes, with an aged bronze colour.

Hand engraved antique singing bowls are extremely hard to come by.  They are usually genuine 18th and 19th century antique bowls from India that are later exquisitely carved in Bangladesh by just a few specialist master craftsmen.  Usually only large superior quality high-value Jambati bowls are engraved because the process is lengthy and expensive.  It can take a skilled craftsman a month or more to engrave a single bowl, depending upon its size and the complexity of design.  And because the carving is usually commissioned they rarely become available.  This beautiful bowl is one of very few engraved antique Jambati in my collection.  Click here for more information about carved bowls.
