Weight 6 lb 7 ¼ oz. (2.94 kilos). Size 30.5 x 13 cm (12 x 5 inches)
This is a magnificent heavy 12-inch antique Jambati Singing Bowl. It has expertly forged even walls with attractive hammer markings and a strong level triangulated lip. There are typical decorative bands around the outer rim and circles at the centre. It has a slightly low profile and a very lovely gently curved body.
The fundamental note is an excellent third octave C# which is 134Hz when the bowl is placed on a cushion, and 137Hz when hand-held. The notes are the same when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. It has quite a long sustain.
This huge antique Jambati bowl is in excellent structural condition, clean and virtually stain-free, with a particularly lovely exterior, while the interior has some lightly speckled surface copper oxidization on the floor, which is quite commonplace in old bowls and nothing to worry about.
A Tibetan silk brocade cushion, a padded striker, and a suede ringer are all included in the price.
